Description

Course Overview:

The middle game is a dynamic phase of chess that blends tactics and strategy. This module helps students identify and seize opportunities, using tactics to gain material or positional advantages. By focusing on timing, balance, and decision-making, students build confidence to navigate this critical stage effectively.

Course Content:

The middle phase of a chess game (the “middlegame”) can be especially tricky, so this level focuses on introducing more complex tactics like the fork, pin, and skewer to help students reach the ultimate goal of checkmating an opponent. This level also addresses strategic awareness, for example, when to attack versus defend.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Mastering key tactics such as the fork, pin, and skewer
  • Understanding strategic decision-making in the middlegame
  • Balancing offensive and defensive play effectively
  • Correctly employ specific chess tactics to gain material
  • Development of sportsmanship and resilience in competitive and casual play
  • Building critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Engage in friendly matches with peers to enhance teamwork and self-esteem.
